Ideally located only 10 minutes from New Norfolk, guests at Heimat Farmstay get the best of both worlds, the tranquility of being immersed in nature on our 100 acre hobby farm and the convenience of a friendly country town within easy reach.

Nestled along the serene banks of the Derwent River, New Norfolk is a hidden gem that captivates visitors with its blend of historic charm and breathtaking natural beauty. New Norfolk boasts a proud history dating back to the early 19th century, and it's evident in the well-preserved colonial architecture lining the streets. Situated in the heart of the beautiful Derwent Valley, Heimat Farmstay provides easy access to the capital Hobart, a 45 minute drive, and other local attractions including:


Mount Field National Park: Approximately a 45-minute drive from Heimat. Known as ‘the park for all seasons’, Mount Field is home to some of the world’s tallest eucalypt forests, as well as a unique array of alpine vegetation. Spectacular glaciated landscapes compete for attention with cascading waterfalls, including the breathtaking, three-tiered Russell Falls - arguably one of the most impressive waterfalls in Tasmania. The park features beautiful walking trails, diverse flora, and the chance to spot native wildlife.


Salmon Ponds Heritage Hatchery and Gardens: Just a 20 minute drive away, Salmon Ponds provides a peaceful setting with historic gardens and the opportunity to feed and history of trout and salmon farming in Tasmania. Also home to Pancakes by the Ponds – Licensed Restaurant & Café, Salmon Ponds is perfect for a relaxing afternoon.


The Agrarian Kitchen:  Immerse yourself in Tasmania's culinary delights at The Agrarian Kitchen in New Norfolk. Mt. Wellington (Kunanyi): About 1 hour away Mt. Wellington is worth mentioning for its panoramic views of Hobart, the Derwent River, and beyond. The drive to the summit is spectacular, and once at the top, you can enjoy breathtaking vistas.
